PRACTICAL GUIDE

I have had a car accident. What should I do first?

People come first. Once safe, calmly record the facts and request the appropriate help.

  1. If anyone is injured or in immediate danger, call 112. Move to safety and do not expose yourself to traffic to take photographs.
  2. Collect contact details, registration numbers, insurance details and witnesses. Photograph the scene and damage only when safe.
  3. Complete the accident statement with the facts, sketch and circumstances. Read it before signing and do not sign a version you disagree with.
  4. Keep a copy and contact assistance if needed. Send the report and collected evidence to your agent or insurer promptly.

You do not need to settle liability at the scene. A clear, consistent account helps the accident assessment.
