PRACTICAL GUIDE · BUSINESS

I run a business. What should I protect and how should I respond?

A business needs to protect its people, assets and decision-makers. This guide helps you organise a review and know where to start when you need support.

For the review: gather policies, activities and workplaces, staff and payroll, an inventory and asset values, existing benefits and management structure. We start with what you have and what has changed.

01 · Workers’ Compensation

Before you need it

  • Check declared roles, workplaces and earnings. Report staff joining or leaving and changes in activities within the policy’s deadlines.
  • Ask whether a waiver of recourse is included. The availability of this cover does not mean it is part of every policy.

If an accident happens

  • Prioritise assistance. In an emergency, call 112; otherwise, check where to seek treatment through the insurer’s Workers’ Compensation network.
  • Send the accident report to the insurer within 24 hours of becoming aware of it. Fatal accidents must be reported immediately, followed by the written report.
  • Record the date, time, location, task and witnesses. Keep the documents and follow the medical team’s and insurer’s instructions.

02 · Business Multi-risk

Prepare the information

  • Separate the building, fit-out, equipment and stock. Update inventories and values, including seasonal stock changes.
  • Consider how long you could operate without premises or machinery. Check whether the proposal includes the business interruption cover you need.

If damage occurs

  • Protect people and, where safe, prevent further damage. Take photographs, keep evidence and report the incident promptly.
  • Request a technical assessment of the cause and a repair quote. Coordinate with the insurer before permanent repairs or disposal of damaged items, without delaying urgent safety measures. Report theft to the authorities.

03 · Business Life Insurance

Define the benefit

  • Compare the insured amount and disability definition: Base and Top do not provide identical protection. Also check any Critical Illness cover.
  • Explain who is covered and how beneficiaries are designated. Review membership and insured amounts when staff or salaries used in the calculation change.

When a claim is needed

  • Contact us to identify the relevant cover and required documents. Submit medical records through the channels specified by the insurer, protecting the employee’s privacy.

04 · Business Health Insurance

Choose and communicate

  • Compare hospital care, consultations and tests, the network, co-payments and waiting periods. Network access does not mean every expense is reimbursed.
  • Assess Extra as a supplement. Give your team a plan summary and explain how to access their card and the network through myAdvanceCare.

Before using the cover

  • Check the provider and costs. For hospitalisation, childbirth or outpatient surgery, check prior authorisation; if prescribed by a doctor outside the network, contact AdvanceCare. Keep prescriptions and receipts for any reimbursement requests.

05 · D&O — Business leaders need protection too

Prepare the assessment

  • Identify the activity, company structure, subsidiaries and management roles. Have recent accounts and information about known claims or circumstances ready.
  • Compare the insured limit, territorial and time scope and defence costs. Check how claims and circumstances that may lead to claims must be notified.

Received a claim or formal notice?

  • Keep the communication and receipt date, preserve records and contact us promptly. Do not wait for court proceedings to begin.
  • Coordinate the response, choice of lawyer and defence expenses with the insurer. Observe the notice’s deadlines and seek legal support in good time.
