PRACTICAL GUIDE

How can I reduce my business’s digital risks?

A fraudulent email or loss of system access can interrupt essential tasks. Start with simple measures shared across your team.

  1. Enable two-factor authentication and use different passwords. Limit each person’s access to what they need for work.
  2. Keep systems updated and backups separate. Check with your IT support that data can actually be restored.
  3. Verify requests to change bank details or make urgent payments through an established contact, not just the details in the received email.
  4. Decide who to contact during an incident: IT support, an internal lead and the insurer if cover exists. Preserve messages and logs for assessment.

Cyber insurance can complement prevention and technical support. Review the covered events; not every fraud or IT failure is automatically insured.

Prepare: essential systems, data handled, backups and response contacts.
