PRACTICAL GUIDE · HEALTH AND TRAVEL
Do I really need insurance when I travel?
Even a short trip can bring a large bill
A sudden illness or accident away from home may require medical attention. Emergency consultations, tests or hospital stays abroad can be expensive. Insurance can help pay for eligible care and arrange assistance.
Repatriation is more than a plane ticket
If you cannot return as planned, medical transport, a medical escort or repatriation may be needed. The assistance service assesses the situation and arranges suitable transport where covered. This is not an unrestricted choice to return early.
What if I already have other insurance?
Check whether your health insurance, another policy’s assistance cover or bank card already provides travel protection. Check the destination, duration, medical expense limits and repatriation. Some assistance does not mean adequate protection for every trip.
Check the essentials before leaving
Provide your destination, dates, travellers and planned activities, including sports. Compare medical expense limits and covered assistance events. Save the assistance number and contact the service as soon as possible if needed; in an emergency, seek local emergency help first.
